The Friday Night Scotch Ball League

The Beaver Brook Scotchball League is a coed couples golf league built around one simple idea: come together for fun, friendly competition, and good company. Teams play Friday evenings at Beaver Brook Country Club in Clinton, New Jersey, and the fellowship off the course matters as much as the golf on it.

The league has deep roots. It started back in 1976 and has been a Friday-night tradition ever since, moving among a few courses over the decades before settling at Beaver Brook in 1991. Generations of members have kept the same spirit alive, getting to know good people while doing something they all love.

Play is “scotchball,” a couples alternate-shot format. Both partners tee off, then the team plays a single ball the rest of the way in. Approximately 20 teams compete across two divisions, the Birds and the Bees, over a season of roughly 16 weeks of weekly matches, crossover nights, and playoffs that crown a league champion. A team handicap keeps every match close, so newer players and seasoned ones compete on even terms.

Beyond the weekly points, season-long side games keep things interesting: Low Putts, Pars-Birdies-Eagles, and the Ringer. The season wraps with an awards dinner, and special nights like the Spring Fling and Founder's Day round out the calendar. Substitutes are always welcome, so a busy Friday never means missing out.
